Mal: Four Months Old
Whoops, this one’s a little late. I was only a day late taking the actual picture though, so I’m still giving myself full credit. 🙂 I haven’t yet managed the combo of smiling/looking at the camera/in focus for the monthly photo, but I’m getting close.
Mal: Three Month Old
Hurray another photo actually taken on time!
I even remembered the ground hog stuffed animal! And I think I got the photo cropped to the same size as last month, though there’s only so much time I’m willing to spend staring at circles on a blanket… 🙂
And a bonus picture! Mal’s figured out how to grab the belly sticker, and I’m up on a step stool trying to take his picture, so my special helper kept putting the belly sticker back in place for me. Complete with dinosaur tattoos on her hands. 🙂
And of course, here’s Dakota at 3 months.
Mal: Two Months Old
Woohoo two month photo!
And I just realized I forgot the stuffed animal again. :(Oh well, soldier on! Here’s one month:
Dakota: Three Years Old!
Okay, I love these kid interview things, so I wanted to give Dakota one… Here are her responses, no prompting/suggesting answers on my part. But a few answers warranted a follow-up question, and I’ve clarified a few of the answers for posterity as well. 🙂

Past years:
Mal: One Month Old
Mal is a month old, hurray!
He’s not quite as big as Dakota was at one month, but he’s certainly trying to look it with that double chin. 🙂
I’m still taking pictures in the living room, but I laid the (awesome handmade gift) blanket in the middle of the floor instead of on the couch, in the hopes of somewhat more even light. And while the legwarmers were fun for Dakota, I figure there’s enough going on with this new blanket so I’ll keep the clothing super simple this time.
I do have a stuffed animal for his pictures, but I completely forgot about it until I went back and looked at Dakota’s one month photo. Curses! But I’m not going for perfection here, and I’m happy with the shot I got, so I’m not going to drive myself crazy trying over and over. I’ll just have to remember for next month. 🙂
Dakota: 2 years, 3 months
Whew, 2+ weeks late, but I got ‘er done!
And previous picture for comparison:
Her hands are behind her back for the current picture because she refused to put down her very own special camera:
I negotiated the photo session by agreeing to take turns having my picture taken with her new camera. Here was her best attempt:
Not bad. Sadly her camera doesn’t have a flash so non-blurry indoor shots are probably going to be tough for her. I actually originally set Dakota up with my 10-year-old point-and-shoot, but it’s so small that her fingers ended up blocking the lens at least 90% of the time. She liked it enough that I decided a camera more designed for her current dexterity level would be worthwhile. Really the old iPhone that we set up to be “her” phone with games and such has a much better camera, but it just doesn’t look sufficiently camera-like. I wonder if there exists an iPhone case that bulks it up and makes it look like a “real” camera with a “lens” centered on the back and such. I’d buy that. 🙂
Dakota: Two! Years! Old!
Another year, another pack of white undershirts for me to paint. I like how it matters less and less if I’m a bit late taking the progress photos, I only just got this one taken today. Even though I’m perpetually tardy, I want to keep these going, and I’m think for her third year I can do a new one every three months. And then maybe in her fourth year I can do them every four months! Craziness. And undoubtedly in her fifth year I will just give up. 😉
But seriously though, look at this kid!
